Pull the pin
Begin by removing the pin that prevents the handle from being squeezed.

Learn the four steps of PASS through a guided, interactive browser experience designed to introduce safe extinguisher use.
Pull. Aim. Squeeze. Sweep.

Before you practice
In a real fire: alert others, leave the dangerous area, call 911 from a safe location, and follow emergency responders.
Only attempt to use an extinguisher when the fire is small, you have the correct extinguisher, and you have a clear escape route behind you.
Read the complete training noticeOne method. Four memorable actions.
The challenge breaks extinguisher operation into a clear sequence, then gives players a chance to practice each action.
Begin by removing the pin that prevents the handle from being squeezed.
Direct the nozzle toward the base of the fire—not the flames above it.
Press the handle to discharge the extinguisher while maintaining control.
Move the nozzle across the base of the fire until the fire is extinguished.
Practice through interaction
The simulation turns a familiar acronym into a short sequence of decisions and movements players can see and repeat.
Each stage focuses on one part of the PASS sequence before the player moves forward.
Players use the extinguisher controls, aim at the base, and practice the sweeping motion.
The experience emphasizes that evacuation and calling 911 come before attempting to fight a fire.
Part of a growing education collection
The Fire Extinguisher Safety Challenge focuses on one important procedure. The Fire Safety Knowledge Challenge reinforces a wider range of prevention, escape, and emergency-response concepts.

Designed for public education & outreach
A future authorized evaluation could explore department presentation, approved local safety language, public contact information, and placement on a department website or educational kiosk.
The current version is a demonstration being refined through testing and feedback. Smaller-screen presentation also continues to be refined. It is not a substitute for certified hands-on extinguisher training.
Share Evaluation FeedbackSafety and training limitations
Players should review extinguisher safety with a qualified educator, fire department, workplace trainer, or another appropriate adult.
Life safety comes first. Evacuate when conditions are unsafe, keep an exit behind you, call 911, and follow instructions from emergency responders.
This prototype introduces the PASS sequence but cannot reproduce extinguisher weight, heat, smoke, pressure, visibility, or the judgment required during a real fire.
The challenge does not require a player account, name, email address, school name, or other personal information to begin.
The A2C3 edition is not sponsored by or endorsed by a fire department or government agency. Authorized branded editions are prepared only with participating department approval.
